If the clock could move any slower, it'd be going backward. Each second agonizingly slow to slip past. Jeez Louise! Forty-five seconds and my last class of the day, my last class of the week, will end and freedom will reign ... at least for the weekend. My mind is running at a hundred miles per hour. Talk about not paying attention in class. I bet today holds a record for getting called on and not having the slightest idea what's going on. It was embarrassing, but I've had this smile plastered across my face that I just can't get rid of. Every since Jevic told me that he wanted to hold me in his arms, I've been on cloud nine. Forty seconds! Shit! I'm not really sure what to make of him other than he is absolutely gorgeous and he likes ME. Nobody likes me, but here's this guy from who knows where that likes me.

The tap on my shoulder was unexpected and as I started to turn around, the girl who sits behind me, I don't even know her name, hands me this note. This is indeed a day of firsts. My first note! Tenth grade and somebody is finally handing me a note. I slowly opened it up and read.

Be at the side door to the gym right after school.

Short, sweet, and to the point. Brandon. He sure has a way of ruining a perfect day. He tried this morning, but Jevic protected me. I hope he's around this afternoon too. Five seconds to go. I really don't understand why Brandon hates me so much or why he has to spend so much time harassing me. I just don't get it. There's the bell! Now I don't feel like being in a great big hurry, but I might as well get this over with.

As I turned the corner at the gym, there he stood, my favorite asshole, Brandon. Funny thing though, he's all by himself. Where's all his fag bashing buddies? I've never had to deal with him without his tag along cheering section. Well, here goes nothing. I walked right up to him and stopped. He actually looked scared.

"Uh, hi Cameron," he said ... nicely. Whoa! That's different.

"What do you want Brandon?" I said stiffly.

"Oh, uh ... I wanted to ah ..." He was searching for the words, but couldn't quite seem to find them. What is he trying to say?

"What is it Brandon?"

"I wanted to tell you ... I'm s-sorry." What's this? Brandon apologizing? I dropped my book bag on the sidewalk from the shock, but there's something not quite right about all this. I noticed his right hand was wrapped in an Ace Bandage. He had suffered the wrath of Jevic this morning and I almost felt sorry for him. Almost.

"What are you sorry for?"

"You know. For beating you up the other night ..." His eyes went straight to his feet. "... and for this morning." He cradled his right hand and winced a little from the still lingering pain. He was coming across as being genuinely sorry, but I didn't believe a word of it.

"Whatever, see ya." I picked up by book bag, walked past him and never looked back. I had more important things to think about.

Just exactly who is Jevic? Is he an alien that lives in a UFO? Is that what he really looks like or is he going change into some monster from outer space? I wonder what other special powers he has? What does he do all day? Does he watch my every move? Is he reading my mind right now?

"Jevic. Can you hear me?" I thought to myself. There was no answer. Well how would he know if I was in trouble? Or is he just choosing not to answer? There's just too many unanswered questions, but tonight, I'll get answers.

I guess I must have dozed off, because when I woke up he was standing at the foot of my bed.

"You're so cute when you're asleep." I immediately blushed. "I used to watch you for hours when you were in stasis. I just couldn't get enough," he said grinning.

"How long have you been here?"

"Just a couple of minutes," he said as he walked around and sat down on the edge of my bed. "I'm sorry I'm late."

"Oh it's OK. I'm just glad you're here now." He leaned down and kissed me on the cheek. I could smell him again. That intoxicating mixture of soap, shampoo and boy that sent me straight into orbit. He looked directly into my eyes with those brilliant green eyes of his. I could feel a warmth start in the center of my chest and slowly start to radiate outward.

"Cameron. While you were in stasis, I ... uh ... I explored your mind. And what I saw and felt, touched my heart. You are a truly beautiful person ... inside and out." He really knew how to make me blush. I started to sit up, but he gently put his hand on my chest, urging me to stay still. Jevic stretched out on the bed beside me. He scooted one arm under my head and with the other, pulled me close to him. He was so warm. So soft and so gentle. I turned to look him in the face and he leaned in closer. My heart was pounding in my chest. Closer he came with those luscious lips and creamy smooth skin. And when his lips met mine, it was like a jolt of electricity through my body. He kissed me gently, pulled back slightly, and then kissed me more urgently. Before I knew what had happened, he had rolled on top of me. Our kiss took on a new personality. One of lust. I wrapped my arms around him and held him tight. I felt his tongue brush across my lower lip and I slightly opened my mouth. He eagerly thrust his tongue toward mine. We were face to face, chest to chest, and crotch to crotch. I started grinding my hips up to meet his. I couldn't help myself. I didn't want to help myself. Oh yes! He ground his hips down to meet mine. I could feel his hardness and I knew he felt mine. We were both fully clothed, but this was the most erotic moment in my entire life and I never wanted it to end. I swirled my tongue in unison with his as we were locked into a kiss that was taking my breath away. I wanted this. I wanted more. I wanted to feel his nakedness next to mind. To take his hardness into my mouth. To make long, hard passionate love with this boy. To feel him inside me, his manhood pulsing and throbbing with every beat of his heart. To become more than two ... to become one in passion, lust and love. When our lips finally parted, we were both breathing heavily. Jevic looked down at me and blushed.

"Why are you blushing? I thought that was my job." He grinned and blushed even more.

"I was, ah, thinking."

"Thinking? About what?"

"About doing more with you." Now it was my turn to blush.

"I think we were both thinking the same thoughts," I confessed.

"We were," he said.

"Do you read my mind all the time?"

"No, but when you're screaming in your head, I just can't help but listen." We both laughed. We got up and sat on the side of my bed. I reached my hand out for his. Our hands met and our fingers intertwined. If someone had walked in my room at that moment they would have seen two kids, blushing and holding hands, both with almost permanent grins. All my troubles. All my challenges. Everything that was negative in my life, melted away. I had nothing but an indescribable wonderful feeling coursing through my body and mind.

"Cameron. I have to explain a few things." I could detect a serious note in his voice. "My people are very similar to humans, but there are distinct differences. In our society, no one cares who you choose as a mate. In your society, it's a great big deal. We are Watchers. We think of everyone else before we think of ourselves. Humans look out for themselves."

"But ..." I interrupted.

"Yes, you're right. There are exceptions. Like you for instance. You're different. You care about others first. Your sexual orientation is different from most. And that makes you a target for some humans that have a very narrow way of perceiving life."

"That makes sense, but how do you talk to me in my head? How did you stop Brandon? And how did you get here? Do you have a spaceship?" My questions were flowing like Niagara Falls.

"OK, one thing at a time. Let's just start with the basics. Humans use about ten percent of their brains. I use almost all of my brain. Talking in your head, or mental telepathy is really very simple. You can do it."

"No way."

"You already have. We've talked to each other."

"No, that was more of you talking to me."

"You called out to me this afternoon, but I didn't answer. I heard you very clearly. Your power is strong and it's growing."

"Power? Me? Yeah right."

"Let me ask you a question Cameron. We're you adopted?"

"Yeah, so what?"

"Your biological parents were, ah, unique. Your father was human and your mother was like me, a Watcher. That means that now that you're sixteen, you're going to start noticing things."

"What kind of things?"

"We don't know. This has never happened before." I sat there in shock. My mother. A Watcher? I'm going to start noticing things?

"Jevic, I don't ..."

"It's OK Cameron. That's why I'm here. But there's something else you have to know." He hesitated like he either didn't want to tell me or didn't know how. "There are Watchers that were against putting you up for adoption. Now they're convinced that you will use your powers against us. They want you ... ah, out of the way."

"Dead? They want me dead?"

"It's just a few radicals Cameron. The majority of us look forward to seeing you grow and most are just curious as to what kind of powers you'll develop, if any at all. Normally, we don't watch over a single person. We're just here to make sure that humans don't get out of hand and destroy everything, but that's another story. I'm here to protect you. To take care of you because you're special. That's my assignment." He paused for a moment and then continued. "What I didn't know and what I didn't count on, was ... ah, falling in love with you."

Scott made his way around the arcade looking for his boyfriend. It was Friday night and they had plans. Greg was supposed to meet him there at ten o'clock, but he was nowhere to be found.

"Hey Scott! Where were you this morning?" Brandon called out. Scott turned as Brandon walked up.

"Oh, ah, my mom made me do some chores before I left for school," he stammered, trying to make something up as quickly as possible.

"There's some weird shit going on around here," Brandon said.

"Really? What happened?"

"Well, I saw our little fairy buddy this morning and he didn't have a mark on him. Nothing. No bruises. No nothing. It's like we never touched him." He paused a moment like he was recalling something. "Which reminds me buddy, I didn't see you in there last night pounding on him. You were kinda standing back. What gives with that shit?"

"Oh, I was, ah, watching for the cops man." Ya had to give it to Scott. He could cover very well.

"Oh, that's cool. But you were acting weird. Like you didn't want us to kick his ass or something. You were almost like ... protecting him. Is there something I should know?"

"Brandon, I just don't want to see us get in trouble. That's all. I mean it's one thing to beat somebody up, but it's quite another to put 'em in the hospital or even worse, kill 'em."

"Yeah, I guess you're right. Anyway, like I was saying, he didn't have a mark on him. So I decided to rough him up a little. At least give him a black eye. So I grabbed him and tried the hit him. And it was like he had some kinda force field around him. Then something I couldn't see grabbed my hand and started crushing it. God it hurt! And out of nowhere, I got hit square in the stomach and it knocked me down."

"Man, you've been smoking some weird shit."

"No really. It happened. Then little fag boy just walked off. And when I tried to get up, it felt like somebody had their foot on my chest. I couldn't move. And all of a sudden each one of the guys started acting like they got hit. And before I knew what had happened, we were all on the ground hurtin'. It was way too weird."

"Damn Brandon. What was it?"

"I ... I don't know. But it gets even weirder. This voice speaks to me in my head!"

"Oh come on man. Don't give me that. You think I'm falling for this crap?"

"I'm not lying man. It was weird. And this voice tells me that if I don't leave Cameron alone that I'm gonna get beat up every day. And then it tells me that I have to apologize. Me, apologize. Well, I wasn't about to even consider it. That's when I started feeling this pain in my chest. It was bad! I could barely breathe. And then the voice tells me I have to apologize, that I have no choice."

"What did you do?"

"Hell, I had to agree. Whatever it was, it had me and had me good. I just figured I'd tell it what it wanted to hear and I could get away, but then the pain got worse. The voice told me that it would be watching me and that I better apologize or I would regret it. Trust me when I say I believed what it said."

"That's some strange story."

"But it's all true, and ... I, ah ... even apologized to Cameron after school." Brandon was blushing and looking down, completely and utterly defeated. "He's got to have some kind of power or something. I've never felt that kind of pain before. It was awful."

"Maybe that's what Cameron was feeling last night when you kicked him in the ribs?" Scott suggested.

"Do ya think so? Man, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, not even fag boy."

"So now what are you gonna do?"

"I don't know yet. I know one thing for sure. I'm staying clear of that little faggot until I can figure out what the hell's going on here."

"Well Brandon, that's probably a good idea. I'll see ya later, OK?"

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

I can't believe that I set my alarm clock last night. It's Saturday and I'm wide awake at seven AM. This is nuts. And what's even more nuts is me. I'm part Watcher? I may or may not have powers? What kind of powers are am going to have? Jevic didn't mention anything specific last night. He just said that I may or may not get some. This is way too weird. I just don't understand why all this is happening to me. I'm not special. Or, at least, I don't think I am.

A sonic boom thundered overhead, shaking the house right down to the foundation. Whoa! That was loud! What the hell's going on?

"Cameron!" It was Jevic in my head.

"Hey Jevic," I thought back to him.

"Cameron! Run! Run anywhere, but just run. Get out of your house right now! Don't wait for anything. Just go and go NOW! RUN!"

"What's wrong?"

"Run first. Questions later!" I raced over to my desk chair and grabbed my jeans, pulling them on as fast as I could. I grabbed my tennis shoes and a tee shirt and hit the door, going down the stairs and out the front door as fast as my legs would carry me.

"Where do I go Jevic? Which way?"

"Doesn't matter, just run! Now I want you to picture me in your mind. Picture me as clearly as you possibly can. Can you do that?"

"That's easy."

"What I'm going to say is gonna be kinda weird, but trust me, OK?

"OK."

"Picture me holding you tight and then close your eyes."

"I can't run with my eyes closed!"

"Trust me Cameron. DO IT NOW! Picture me holding you and close your eyes." I could see him clearly in my mind and saw him pulling me into a hug. "Hurry Cameron. All you have to do is close your eyes. Trust me. Come on, you can do it!" This is crazy, but here goes nothing. I closed my eyes as tightly as I could and thought of nothing but Jevic holding me in his arms. Suddenly everything started to get quiet. It was like someone was turning down the volume on my whole world. The wind that had been whistling in my ears stopped. I felt weird, almost weightless. I stopped running and then, I felt him. His warm arms embracing me. My eyes fluttered open and I was with Jevic.

"I knew you could it. I just knew you could."

"W-what did I just do?"

"You just took a leap of faith. You trusted me and you traveled a great distance by only using your mind."

"Where am I?"

"It's not important. What is important is that you got away. And, you've just proven that you do have powers, strong powers. I always knew it. I just didn't know it know it, if you know what I mean?" He was grinning from ear to ear, beaming with pride, like a parent who just taught his kid to ride a bike. I on the other hand, was still trying to figure out what happened.

"Why did I have to get away? Was someone after me?"

"Ah, I'm afraid so. Remember the radicals I was telling you about last night?" I nodded. "Well, they're not real happy that we've contacted you. We're going to have to be real careful from now on." Suddenly a man appearing out of thin air right beside us.

"Hi Jevic," he said. "I see he actually did it." He was an older man, maybe mid forties, quite handsome with piercing blue eyes. His kind face put me at ease, despite his rather bizarre entrance.

"I'd like you to meet Cameron," Jevic said.

"Cameron. I'm so very pleased to meet you," he said warmly "I'm Paulik, Jevic's father." I tried to say something, but I just couldn't. Paulik smiled at me and put his hand gently on my shoulder. "Too much, too soon, eh?" I forced a grin and nodded. "Perfectly understandable. Jevic has told me quite a bit about you. Your mind traveling abilities are phenomenal. I've never seen a sixteen year old with no training do what you just did. Incredible." He moved toward a chair and nodded toward the couch. Jevic and I sat down and his father continued. "Cameron, your mother was a very powerful Watcher. And your father was a very kind and giving human. Their deaths were a great loss to us." My parents were dead. I never even knew them, but I felt a tear slowly drop down my cheek. "How insensitive of me," he apologized. "I'm so sorry Cameron, but you need to hear this and then you'll understand. Your mother's powers were even stronger than her father's, your grandfather. He was the most powerful chairman the council ever had. The Talons didn't approve of the way your grandfather and the council were running things."

"The Talons?" I asked, finally getting enough courage to speak.

"They're the radicals I was telling you about," said Jevic. Then his father continued.

"The Talons plotted and had your mother and father killed. She was pregnant with you at the time. Obviously, you were saved and the decision was made to put you up for adoption to keep your identity hidden from the Talons." He looked directly at me with his sparkling blue eyes and continued. "The potential for powers in you is there. They could be very, very powerful. Just the potential alone is enough to make the Talons want to kill you, as they did your parents. Today was a very close call. The council and I are doing everything possible to bring them under control, but I'm afraid they've been successful in evading us so far. We'll get them soon but in the mean time, you must be very alert. Trust in Jevic. His powers are well beyond his years. He is perfectly capable of protecting you in any circumstance." I smiled at Jevic and he smiled back.

"I sense strong feelings within you Cameron," he said. I blushed. "Your feelings please me very much. I'm sure that you two will enjoy each other's company." Then he winked at me and smiled widely.

"Dad," whined Jevic.

"You're bond with him is strong too son. I can feel it. It's pure and it's good. I'm very proud, and I'm very happy for you both." He stood abruptly. "Well, I'm off to see the council. I'm sure they will be very interested to know Cameron can mind travel. I'll see you both soon." And with that ... poof ... he was gone.

Jevic looked at me, trying to tell how I was handling all this new information. He moved closer and put his arm around me. "Cameron?" he said timidly.

"I'm fine Jevic. I just can't believe all this. I mean, I was just a normal ... well, almost normal kid a couple of days ago and now my parents have been killed and I have inherited some kind of awesome powers and there's people out to kill me! I'm mind traveling and people just poof in and out ..." I was shaking. No, I guess I wasn't handling this too well and Jevic understood. He pulled me closer and I laid my head on his shoulder. "What am I gonna do?"

"There's not much to do, but I could show you the rest of my home."

"This is your home? Where is it, I mean, where are we?" He smiled and nodded toward the window. I looked over toward the window and a shark swam past. A shark! "We're ... we're under water?"

"Yep. Slap dab in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle," he said smiling broadly.

"Tell me why this makes absolute perfect sense?" I chuckled.

"Well," he started seriously. "We needed a base of operation and we needed to be out of the way. So our ancestors decided that the tiny island of Atlantis would be the perfect spot."

"Oh shit, don't give me that crap."

"No, it's all true."

"I can't believe this." Jevic went on to tell me the whole history of the Watchers. How they had been here to observe and report back to their scientists about the progress of their evolutionary shot in the arm. We spent the whole morning talking, learning, and laughing. I hadn't realized that the time had gone by so fast. When I ran out of my house this morning, I hadn't eaten breakfast, and I found myself hungry.

"Jevic. I'm starved. Can we get something to eat?"

"Sure, it's lunch time. What do you want?

"I don't know. What do you have?"

"We have anything you want. We have a complete agricultural center. But we don't eat meat. We're strictly vegetarians. Is that okay? I mean if you want a hamburger or something, I could probably rustle one up."

"No that's okay. Anything would be fine."

"OK, come on." We walked into a small kitchen area just off the living room. Jevic pressed a few buttons on a control panel and opened what looked like a microwave door and pulled out two plates of steaming hot vegetables in a cream sauce. It smelled heavenly. We sat down at his small table and started lunch. The kitchen area also had windows to the outside underwater world. I was amazed at all of the beautiful fish that swam by. Just when we were finishing up, there was a knock on the window. We both looked up and saw a boy in an odd looking suit waving. Jevic waved back and motioned for him to come in.

"That's Pelma. He's my best friend. He'll show up in a few minutes." I nodded and finished my lunch. For being entirely vegetarian, it was absolutely delicious. I did like my burgers and fries, but I could get used to this kind of food in a hurry. We put the dishes away in what appeared to be a dishwasher and I followed Jevic back into the living room. I couldn't help but look at his perfect little butt. His little round globes filled out his pants perfectly and they seemed to move in a sensuously intoxicating dance. God he was hot! And just as the thought passed through my mind, he turned, smiled and blushed.

"Damn! I'll never get used to this mind reading stuff. Sorry."

"Oh please don't be. I find it very flattering. When your mind reading capability develops, I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot of the same kinds of thoughts." He blushed again. We stood there looking at each other like two tigers ready to pounce. I could see the beginnings of his excitement showing through his pants and I'm sure he saw mine. Then the bell went off.

"Saved ... by the bell," he said. He looked over toward the door. There was a small screen next to it and I saw a young boy standing there. "Open," Jevic said and the door whisked open.

"Jevic, hey dude!"

"Pelma, hey man. Come on in." The boy walked in and I was once again in shock. Is every Watcher cute? He was tall, maybe about five ten with jet black hair that hung down to his shoulders and brilliant blue eyes. Wide shoulders and a broad chest tapered down to a slim waist. This guy obviously worked out. Very nice! I guess I was gawking, because he looked directly at me and smiled great big. Jevic turned and looked at me smiling too.

"Busted! I know. Sorry. It's this mind reading stuff. I'll never get used to it." They both cracked up. I just blushed.

"Pelma, this is Cameron," Jevic said proudly. Pelma walked over and gave me a great big hug.

"It's a honor to meet you Cameron. I've heard all about your mind traveling. It's the hottest gossip in the complex."

"Uh, thanks, I guess."

"Damn, and he's modest too. Looks like your boyfriend couldn't be any more perfect." Jevic suddenly looked panicked. "What's the matter dude?"

"I, ah, well, we're not boyfriends ... yet," he gulped. I seized the opportunity and walked directly over to Jevic, put my arms around him and kissed him passionately. Then I looked him in the eyes.

"Jevic, will you be my boyfriend?" The look on his face was perfect.

"You know I will," he said softly.

"Well hell! This is cause for a celebration," said Pelma. "It isn't everyday my best friend gets a boyfriend. Let's go down to the Shack."

The Shack, as everyone called it, was THE place for all the teenagers to hang out. There were video games, pool tables, and loud music, all the trappings of a cool place to hang out with your friends. I met so many people I couldn't keep count, much less remember their names. Everyone was honored to meet me. Jeez, I felt like a celebrity, but had no real inkling as to why they were all so amazed with my very limited powers.

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

The door whisked closed behind us and we both plopped down on the couch. I was exhausted. We had spent the entire afternoon at The Shack and I was tired.

"Jevic, I had no idea you had so many friends."

"Yeah, they're pretty cool."

"I've never really had a lot of friends," I commented and then thought to myself, "and right now, I really don't have any."

"You've got lots of friends now Cameron."

"Just how do you do this mind reading stuff? I want to know how to turn it off!"

"It's no big deal. You'll learn in time."

"I was sooo embarrassed this afternoon when I met Pelma. You have no idea. I just wanted to crawl in a hole and hide." I was really getting frustrated with the whole mind reading stuff and just wanted it to go away.

"Ok baby. Calm down. First of all, we're both beat. How about we take a little nap, then grab a bite to eat and I'll try to work with you and see if we can develop your mental skills."

"OK, I am kinda tired."

"Good, come on. I'll show you the bedroom."

"Jevic."

"Yeah."

"You called me baby."

"I did?"

"Yep ... and I liked it." I smiled and gave my new boyfriend a quick kiss on the lips.

"Now baby, take me to your bedroom," I said in my most seductive voice. Jevic gulped and took me by the hand. He led me to the opposite wall from the kitchen and into his bedroom. There was a huge window at the foot of the bed with all kinds of fish swimming by. His room was very neat, by my standards. I'm not a slob, but I'm not a clean freak either. Right now though, the center of my attention was his bed. He stopped and pulled off his shirt. I couldn't help but stare at the rippling muscles in his back. And when he turned to face me, his chest came into full view. Oh what a sight! Smooth skin and a broad chest with clearly defined pecs tapering down to a well developed stomach with just the ever slightest hint of a treasure trail just below his cute little belly button. He smiled, slightly blushed and then he helped me with my shirt. He stepped back and took in the view. It kinda made me uncomfortable for someone to so closely examining my body, but his smile pushed aside all of that. We kicked off our shoes and climbed into bed. I rolled over on my side with my back toward Jevic and he snuggled up behind me and held me in his arms. What a wonderful feeling. Safe, secure and most of all, loved. Truly loved for the first time in my life. You couldn't have pried the smile off my face with a crow bar. As the darkness came to take me away, Jevic nuzzled his nose into the hair at the back of my head and lightly kissed my neck. And as I drifted away into sleep, I heard him whisper I love you.

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

I woke to the sounds of soft music. Jevic was breathing gently, his arms still wrapped around me. The room was awash with an eerie luminous light. There were no light fixtures, no lamps, just the soft eerie glow. There were no speakers that I could see, yet the soft music was easily heard. The fish were still swimming by the window and suddenly, Paulik appeared in the chair in the corner. He held his finger up to his lips to tell me to be quiet. We smiled at each other and then he rose and beckoned me to follow him. I eased out of the bed, leaving Jevic snoring softly, and walked into the other room. Paulik was already seated on the couch and waved me over. I sat next to him and he patted me on the leg.

"Cameron. Your mother would be so proud of you. She was a wonderful woman, and was a very close friend. It would make her very happy to see you with my son." He paused and smiled as if he were remembering happy times. And then his expression turned serious. "I've just come from a meeting of the high council. They are very concerned for your safety. And they are very impressed with your quickly developing powers. They all feel that you are going to be a great Watcher, and even a great leader, but they are worried. The recent attack at your home and the increased activity of the Talons has a lot of us worried. We don't want to see anything happen to you." He paused to let what he said sink in and then he continued. "I'd like for you to stay here with Jevic until we can figure out how to handle this."

"What about my mom and dad and school?"

"We have ways to take care of that. Your parents won't even miss you and school is an easy matter to take care of. You can continue your studies right here. It's just that we're very concerned for your safety." He paused again, like he was deciding whether or not to tell me something else. Then he sighed and continued. "Cameron. I know that you have been introduced to a whole lot in the last few days, a lot of which you probably don't understand. But the fact of the matter remains, you have human blood ... and you have Watcher blood. In all the centuries that we have been here, this has never happened before. We honestly just don't know what to expect. With your permission, I would like to have my personal physician give you the once over." I nodded and he continued. "The real possibility here is that you will manifest powers of a magnitude that we have never seen before. You could end up being the most power Watcher to come along in centuries. For that reason, it's vitally important to keep you safe. I hope you understand."

"I'm trying to understand mister, uh ..."

"Just call me Paulik. Later on, when you're comfortable enough, you can call me dad," he said with a wink. We both chuckled.

"If I am what you say I am, I have a lot to learn. Because right now, I am simply clueless as to what's going on. For some reason though, I trust Jevic. And I'm beginning to trust you. I know that you have my best interest at heart, but I've spent my entire life worrying about school and friends and how to keep from getting beat up. I had no idea that I ... had a mother from ... outer space." Suddenly a loud clanging sound boomed through the room. Paulik jumped up and Jevic came running out of the bedroom.

"Dad!"

"We're under attack! It's gotta be the Talons. Quick, get Cameron to safety. I'm headed to the command center." And with that, he disappeared. Jevic was wide eyed and scared. It scared me too.

"Come on. We've gotta go!" He grabbed me and we ran toward the door. That's when the window exploded and water came gushing in.
