Some stories will make you laugh your arse off and others will have you diving for a box of tissues for your tears or to clean up a mess ;) afterall, there's sex in most of these stories.

I had a lot of thinking to do. Was I gay? What was I? I was David, but gay David? Straight David? Something else? What? I often accused myself of overthinking things, but this needed a lot of thought. I gave myself time for that. This didn’t seem like overthinking but more like letting my brain go where it hadn’t before, where I’d prevented it from going.

New Suggestion!"Can You Spare a Quarter"

Completye with 1 Chapters with an Epilogue (111,623 words)
Completed 20 January 2017

The morning dawned clear and cold over the city. Frost clinging to the bricks on the sides of the buildings sparkled in the rays of the rising sun as it peeked through the thin wisps of fog that lay in isolated patches over the city. Beneath the unblemished blue sky down in a back alley a pile of discarded newspapers began to shift as a small figure stirred beneath them. At first the movements were subtle, but then a tattered running shoe appeared from under the mound of newspaper. Then another foot appeared and finally a small dirty young hand came into view and moved the upper layers of newspaper to one side.
Approximately fourteen years ago I began writing this story. It was clearly the work of an amateur, well-intentioned but amateur nonetheless. I always promised the young fellow it was about that some day I would do a better job of it. I finally completed that effort this (2016) spring, but the revised version was given only limited release as I did it primarily as a gift to him.
For those that may remember the story and the young fellow it is about, I regret to have to inform you all that 'Jamie' died on Sunday November 6, 2016. He was stricken with cancer in his stomach. The symptoms came on suddenly and without warning, and it was over before much could be done. To say that I and everyone else are shattered does not even begin to touch the matter. Any light in the world for me has gone out.
In his honour and his memory I now release the revised/expanded version.
    Tigerpaw

NOTE from Jevic - I read this story a number of years ago. How it didn't make this list, I have no idea. Thanks to Norman for making the suggestion!

Wow! I've spent the last few days reading 72 chapters of Jeff's wonderful story. The story centers around the main character David and his life from David's earliest years to his death at age 90. It's been said that the little dash between the date of birth and the date of death on a tombstone represents the person's life ... well, David's life has a very long dash and chapter by chapter, you'll be able to experience it. Through trials and tribulations, Dave meets life head on. This is one story that you will really enjoy ... truly. There's lots of hot sex at the beginning of the story, as you can expect at the beginning of any relationship, and, hehe, it never stops, but it does age like a fine wine. It was a wonderful story and I can claim that I found it all on my own! Enjoy, you'll not be disappointed.

From the author - Told from the perspective of 140 year-old Dylan, this is the story of how the world was changed by the world-shattering events of the early 21st Century. When 12-year old Dylan Thomas met 12-year old Henry Jacobs on the playground of their elementary school, neither had any idea of the road they would walk together, nor how their friendship would forever change the world around them. This story features the best and the worst of humanity, and is not for the young, or weak of heart. Be sure if you’re underage you have parental approval to read this story, and that you won’t break any of your local laws by doing so.

While in some ways it will do that, this one is different enough that I think a word of warning is in order. This story is grittier, rougher, more disturbing, and you may not find it to be to your taste. Knowing that going in could be helpful to some, and adding this advisory in advance alleviates my conscience."

Matt Tucker had been through hazing hell in high school. He'd finally made it through when Kevin came into his life to mix it all up again. This is a really good story filled with insightful comments from Matt's mother and father. Cole Parker has written quite a few stories and I'm sure they will slowly make their way on to this list as I have a chance to read them.

There's no car chases, no AK-47's ripping through flesh, and no giant star cruisers blasting thick white beams of anti-matter at the Klingons. What there is ... is a wonderfully weaved story of two boys in love. Best friends since the fifth grade, they come out to each other in the seventh and confess their love for one another. Four days later, one of them is viciously ripped out of the picture and moved a thousand miles away. But the love Brian and Pete have for each other never stops ... even after almost three years of being separated. You've gotta read this one!!
And the saga continues ... with 25 chapters of "Brian and Pete." I find myself getting so mad at both Brian and Pete. They both do stupid stuff, and they both know it! How can you not want to read the next chapter? These two dudes are wide open. This is the second part of the story that began as "For the Love of Pete" and continues with a vengence. Follow along as our boys try to figure out life, deal with intense anger and take the road trip of road trips. My hat's off to Dewey for an fantastic, emotional story that he has finally brought to an end after four years of writing. Congrats Dwayne!

His eyes had literally been exhausted of their tears, swollen and dry, bloodshot to the degree where it just looked like it hurt him to blink.     This is actually John's first stab at fiction and I think he did a fantastic job! The story takes place in 1968/1969 and is filled with all kinds of songs titles and lyrics ... songs that you would be hearing on the radio back then. That's just one of those details that John handles extremely well. The story's main character is Wil (That's right, Wil with one "L" please!). His best friend is Sky. John weaves a typical "best friend" plot but gives it so many unexpected twists that it had me glued to the screen until I had read the introduction, all 22 chapters and the epilogue. This is one cool story, but be warned ... keep a tissue handy ... hehe ... yeah, for clean up and for wiping your eyes!

Friends won’t push each other as hard. We have a mixture of boys and girls here, and most partnerships will match one of each. However, we have more boys than girls, so a few groups will be composed of two boys working together. Okay. I’ll read off the pairings at the end of class. It’ll be up to you guys to get together, figure out study sessions, and get going with it.”
He went on with how we could use computers and the school library to find the info we needed. He then read off the twosome assignments; I was one of the boys who had a boy for a partner. Maybe the worst boy in class. Maybe the worst boy in the entire school. Tanner Booth.

The Tree was old. It had watched over many generations of local inhabitants. Settlers moving west from Sydney, recognizing that the area was suitable for farming, had formed the small township of Mourton around The Tree. Even then, the residents recognized something special in The Tree and preserved the land around it as a park. Their discovery of land nearby that was suitable for grapes assured the prosperity of the town.
The children enjoyed clambering through the gnarled roots, up between the multiple, twisted trunks, and along the huge, curving branches. The middle of The Tree, between those trunks, was a safe haven, a fort, the room at the top of an enchanted tower, the meeting place of a secret society, the cabin of a sailing ship, or the centre of a wild forest – whatever the children imagined. Without knowing it, The Tree became a part-time babysitter, as it entertained the youngsters while their parents performed their strange adult rituals.
An educated man once declared The Tree to be a magnificent specimen of Ficus Macrophylla – a Mourton Bay Fig Tree. That name said so much about The Tree, but left so much more unstated.
Young lovers enjoyed the cool shade the spreading canopy provided. Many a tryst took place under the protection of The Tree.
    Slowly, a legend grew.

The internet can be a dangerous place sometimes. Chat rooms can be perilous. Sixteen-year-old Woody Fields finds out too late just how sinister a place they can be when he begins chatting online with another mysterious boy.
Okay. I know Mrs. Chapman told us that we had to write an essay about ourselves, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Me,’ but I just couldn’t do it. So, I decided to write about being a tree. It’s a lot better than writing about me.
Marco from Italy suggested this story for me to read and his recommendations are usually "spot on." So I gave it a go and I sure am glad I did. Ronyx's stories usually deal with "challenges" gay youth face and this is a really good one.

16 Chapters with a Forward and an Epilogue
Completed 25 May 2006

    Here's Josh's forward to the story ...

I only began writing fiction about a year ago and don't pretend to be an expert, but I think a good story can still have quite a bit of erotic content. In real life, some of our most tender moments occur in bed, as well as some of our crassest. I believe that opening the door to those moments can add to a story. And yes, erotic scenes can be fun as well.
My first attempt at a longer gay romance, "Sea Change", was perhaps too high on sexual content. Nevertheless, I did have a couple of important things to say in the story and felt that I also managed to work in a good plot. And I resolved to try for a better balance in the future.
""The Least of These" represents not only an attempt at that better balance, but also another attempt on my part to say important things. I wanted a story that not only had a happy ending, but showed how to get one.
You see, happily-ever-after lives don't just happen. They are earned or lost, one decision at a time. I wanted to write a story that would show the nature of those choices, the types of sacrifices that must be made in a long-term relationship, and the uncompromising nature of true commitment.
"The Least of These" also marks my first use of editors. I had two friends who spent hours helping me in a number of ways, and I am deeply grateful, not only for their help, but also for what I learned from them in the process. As I wrote and posted the story, I did so with the attitude that this first round was a rough draft. Someday I would love to go back to clean up and tighten the story, nevertheless, I'm quite pleased with how it has turned out. I hope you enjoy it too.

Josh did truly write a story that I enjoyed and I'm sure you will too. "Sea Change" is also on the Recommended Reading List as well as "Sealing Our Fate".

From the author: Circumstances forced me to finish writing The Least of These sooner than I intended, leaving unwritten several things I wanted to include in the story. And though I really needed to give my attention to my new work, the unfinished story continued to stalk my thoughts. And so, when I found a little more time to work on it, I began to write a sequel, The Greatest of These. Michael, my friend and editor down in Australia helped, and I quickly produced the first eight chapters. These chapters, which I had only intended to use to set the foundation for the rest of the story, actually worked well as a stand-alone piece.

Kyle Davis had learned a lot from his fish. Just like the people around him, they each had their own place in their little world, their own personalities, and their own purpose. The little goldfish was his most recent addition to this tank, and already he could tell that the two mollys seemed to be mistaking its gleaming gold scales for flakes of food. And just like always, he did not interfere in the affairs of fish, just as he did not interfere in the affairs of Travis Beltnick, who the little goldfish was reminding him very much of at the moment.

"I hadn't meant to speak, but it had happened and I hated myself for it. My dad and I moved here after my mom my sister and I had been in a bad car accident. In the end it took my mother and sister, but spared me for some unknown reason. As a cosmic joke for months afterward I spoke in only song lyrics or something equally rhythmic or repetitious, not always the whole poem or anything, so sometimes at almost sounded like I was talking. And sometimes while I was under pressure, I still did. And I was powerless to stop it and as a result I rarely spoke. I could still feel the sickening lurch of the car rolling off the embankment, the disorientation as the car went upside down, right side up, upside down until it landed on the roof. The police said my mother fell asleep, and my sister had flattened the front seat out to sleep, so the seat belt was worthless. Only I, strapped in the back seat came through with just a few bruises."
From the author: Long Day is a story that was kicking around in my head since high school. It finally made it's way out of my head in the form of Jake Tull and I consider it to be my crowning work. I hope it finds a place in your heart.
That pretty much sets the stage for the story. Trust me, you'll enjoy every chapter.

"Oh god, not him!" I said, now really bummed.
"Mr. Edison, that is my proposal. Take it or leave it."
Josh O'Hara was a little dork, if you asked me. He was short, scrawny, red short hair, and couldn't have weighed more than 110lbs. He always kept to himself and was, as I'm told, a complete nerd. And probably the valedictorian of our class.
I sighed again and resigned. "Okay, Mr. Smith. I'll take it. What do I have to do?"

From the author - This is a work of fiction. It is, however, based at least in part on real people and a few actual events. Many of the conversations represented here took place. Having experienced the joys of being outed in public by another myself, I have taken the liberty of changing the names and altering the events enough to hopefully prevent anyone from being embarrassed.
This is a wonderful story with a twist that will have you falling off your seat! Mark reminds David of his brother, Michael. In fact, Mark is the spitting image of Michael. They go through some really tough times as their relationship develops ... until they finally figure out the connection between each other ... and, of course, that has to do with Michael ... hence, the name of the story. As I read the story I kinda knew what was gonna happen, but the author takes his readers through a ton of emotion to get there! This is one really good read! For such a simple story that takes place in rural Georgia with very simplistic settings ... this story rocks! Read it!

From Sequoyah about this story ...
MOON WATCHING is unlike other stories I have written in a couple of ways. First of all, it is perhaps darker than most things I have written. That is reflected immediately in the opening of the story. Second, the time sequence is not at all straight forward. The story moves in a kind of stream of conscious mode i.e., while any section may start in the near present, it may remain there or go anywhere in the past. Further, the story may take a new tack in the middle of the telling of an event or episode.z,brz.     Additionally, in literary terms, it is a framed story, i.e., it begins at a point, travels around a long and circuitous route before returning to that point. However, unlike a pure framed story, the frame, i.e., the opening point and closing point are not outside the story itself. Further, unlike most framed stories, having finally returned to the beginning point, the story does not end. Rather MOON WATCHING moves ahead in a straight chronological line.
Not sure about a particular timeline? I am not surprised. I was confused many times and may well have not gotten the timeline absolutely correct. Of course, any confusion in the timeline is to be blamed on Tom's memory, not my writing!
I hope you like Tom and Keith. I do.

Suicide wasn't anything at all like I had expected. I had figured that, most likely, it would be like nothing. Literally nothing. Just the end. No awareness, no memory, no lingering energy or consciousness or soul of any kind.
Mostly though, I just expected to be dead.
What I didn't expect was an utter lack of anything worthwhile to watch on TV.

Suicide is not to be taken lightly and this story does not do that. Read along and discover what really happened to Jeffrey. There's a really good twist!

Douglas, part Native American, doesn't fit in with his mother's high society Southern family. When his parents and sister are suddenly killed, he moves in with his mountain-bound grandparents. He starts to see a mysterious young man that he is attracted to.
    From the author:
Mountain Magic is the second novel length work I have undertaken. The first, A Special Place, came about when a young man, a former student, suggested that I write a story incorporating the values, philosophies, thoughts he and I had discussed when he revealed he was gay. What I intended as a short story, like Topsy, grew and ended up longer than War and Peace before splitting into two parallel sequels.
The reception of A Special Place was a large surprise. Far from being a story only appreciated by gay high students, it was read by all ages and readers included a surprising number of women and straight men. I was especially pleased when readers wrote that the story had helped them through a rough patch, got them thinking about commitment, made them re-think what being in love meant, in short, it impacted lives which it was intended to do.
While A Special Place was over and done with-contrary to many requests, I am convinced it is finished-other characters started bugging me to tell their story. One evening, I just started writing about a young man, Douglas, who had lost all of his family and suddenly became a city boy living on a farm in the mountains of western North Carolina. Mountain Magic was born.
As the story developed, all kinds of love played a part. That is important to me because one of my rock bottom beliefs is that love, wasteful love, love which learns not to count the cost, is what human life is about. Sex, as an expression of commitment and love, gay or straight, is what sex is about so far as I am concerned.
So Mountain Magic continues to grow and develop and as it has, it has suggested there might be other characters with stories to tell.
    We shall see.

It was Friday morning near the end of March. Adam sat dejected on the ground near where he had been dropped off. It was another day of school, but certainly not another normal day for him. He had stayed the previous night at Gary's house, but Gary's mum had made it quite clear that he wasn't welcome back there. The night before last, he had been at Aiden's house, but Aiden's dad's displeasure at the situation had been painfully obvious. Adam's arm was still sore from the blow he had received. Who could he stay with tonight? Aiden and Gary had both said that they wouldn't say anything to anyone, but he didn't know how long it would be before word got out. As Adam looked up, he saw the Johnson twins getting off the bus. Maybe...

"The Nexus Trilogy"

The Nexus Trilogy by David Clark
Author's Summary - This Trilogy is about an ordinary kid with an ordinary life who goes on an ordinary school trip to France - at least, the town he goes to starts out in France ...
I'd have zipped on by that one just based on the summary, but I have a marketing background, so let me "entice" you to read this "gem." Kid goes to France, kid visits castle, kid gets lost, kid finds room with lots of doors that lead to different "worlds" and away we go on an adventure that has a Nazi and a Jew as boyfriends ... gotcha! Now that's the way to summerize a story! Yeah, it's really awesome (originally 'good' but it got an upgrade).
I have to take a moment to thank Marco from Italy for recommending this story and quite a few others. You've got a great eye for great stories mio amico! Grazie, grazie! Accolgo con favore i tuoi suggerimenti in qualsiasi momento! (I welcome your suggestions at any time!)

During a tour of a castle, Jake gets bored and decides to do some hiking. He gets lost in a strange mist and ends up at a cabin in the middle of the woods. The cabin is actually the entrance to a portal enabling people to pass from parallel universe to parallel universe. For example, one universe, or world, is where you live. You travel to another world where, say, Germany won the war. Or another world inhabited by a species of reptiles. So follow along as Jake seems to "dig his hole" deeper and deeper.     Its' strange how parents react when they find out their sons are gay. Some are totally accepting, while some are totally the opposite. Both of the main characters in this story are dealing with dads that just can not accept the fact that their sons are gay. Perhaps they blame themselves. Perhaps they feel somewhat responsible ... that they "failed" as fathers. Whatever the reason, the hate and rejection leaves the sons shattered. That's not the main gist of this story ... the main gist is that two sons with similiar fathers find each other. And through a series of events, "really" find each other. Be warned for a sad ending.

As regular readers of my stories know, I don’t do sequels. I’m often asked to because, I’m told, people want to know what becomes of characters they have grown attached to as these guys have grown older.
I don’t write sequels because then I’m stuck with characters whose lives I’ve already illuminated. I’ve said what I had to say about them. I’ve moved on so I can create new characters, which is a process of which I’m quite fond.
But, in an effort to get you guys off my back… hold on. I didn’t mean that. In an effort to soothe the savage breast you guys generally keep so well hidden — yeah, that sounds better — I have taken pen in hand, or, to be more factual about it, keyboard on lap, and I’ve written a sequel.
You don’t have to read, or reread, "One Summer in Georgia" to enjoy this story, but if you’d like to re-familiarize yourself with it and the people who populated it, you have my permission. I personally kind of liked those characters.

Underthehoodster has written a story that will demand your attention from the very first chapter. Perry meets Jesse and the rest is history. This story is told from an unusual perspective and you have to be pretty savvy to pick up on it. Consider yourself challenged! Lithe little innocent Jesse isn't what he appears to be. Just as you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, you shouldn't judge Jesse by his outward appearance and mannerisms. To say that Perry falls head over heals is an understatement, but the trials and tribulations these two boys go through is incredible. From being assaulted in the bathroom and being forced to perform sexual favors to cage fights in the middle of nowhere ... Underthehoodster will have you begging for more. Hang on, 'cause it's a hell of a ride!

From the author - It is somewhat astonishing to imagine that events that occurred thirty years ago could still reverberate to this day. Choices that we make in the blink of an eye can affect us for years to come, more often than not in totally unexpected ways. Like the ever expanding ripples caused by a pebble tossed into a still pond, these events reach out to us across the smooth surface of time. In Part III of my youthful memoirs, you will read about one such choice, made on the spur of the moment, motivated by love, and driven by the intensely human need to protect those they feel closest to.

From the author - Part IV is called Brothers, and besides the obvious connotations, alludes to some of the other relationships that were developing in my life around this time. While I was, at that point in time, an only child, many of the people I was closest too were parts of larger family units. I was always fascinated and somewhat envious of those who had siblings both older and younger: Morgan Kipner and his younger brother, Derek, Tom Espinoza and his two sisters, and of course, Jesse Taylor and his precious little sister--the dear, sweet, and ever so wise Miranda. And even though I was lacking in true and full siblings, this was around the time that I started to form a special bond with my younger cousin Derrin, a bond that would evolve into a deeply rooted friendship that has lasted to this day. He is in many ways, the closest thing I have to a true brother. We talk about everything and we are always there for each other.

From the author - Lest you suppose the following chronicles to be only a collection of adolescent angst--the sturm and drang of German nineteenth century philosophy transposed some two hundred years to the idyllic suburban landscape of southern California, I remind you of Jesse's very own words: "It's important for you to tell this story, especially the good times ..." and I have tried not to forget his request.

I kinda stumbled on this story and seeing that John Francis wrote it, I gave it a go ... and I sure am glad I did! John Francis ("Groovy Kind of Love," "Jagged Angel") once again proves he is a master storyteller.
When Jason Thomas finally made it out of the cave he was exploring, he wasn't exactly in the same, ah, place he started. That's where Travis Colt makes his appearance. When Jason asks about the MacDonalds that was supposed to be on the corner and was told that, no, the MacDonalds' place is about a mile down the road, Jason begins to question where, or rather, when he is. Turns out it's 1864!

Grasshopper continues to be one of my favorite authors. Trip and Brandon live in Wyoming. Grasshopper explores how it must be for two men to fall in love in the middle of homophobic America. It's a story of responsibilities ... responsibilities that become a prison. And it's a story of love so strong, that it never gives up. Both men think it has, but it hasn't. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and you will too.

This story is set in Ann McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern world. The story follows Jashon. He's the son of a holder that is not following tradition, which, as always, leads to grief and discontent.
The world of Pern, as created by Anne McCaffrey have long been a favorite of mine. If you have never read any of her stories, I encourage you to purchase them from an online retailer or your local bookstore. Like Anne McCaffrey herself, I recommend starting with her original book about Pern, Dragonflight. My personal favorite remains Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern.

"Did Jim know exactly what I'll be doing?" he asked his mom.
"Well, it's a horse ranch so I would imagine there will be a shovel in your future."
LOL! I won't give the story away, but young Zak turns out to be what we call a "Horse Whisperer."

This story evoked so much emotion in me that I found myself wrapped around a box of Kleenex lying in the floor with tears streaming down my face. It seems odd that just a hour earlier I had my hand wrapped around the most incredible hardon I've had lately. I'd read this story earlier ... back when he first posted it. Why I didn't suggest it then ... I don't know ... sorry. I found myself thinking about my best friend from high school ... Mike. He died years ago (Cancer) and all the emotion from that came back ... full force.
In my dresser drawer is a collection of small rocks ... rocks that I carefully and reverently gleened from the stream beside the campsite that Mike and I spent our last night together under the stars. A few months later, Mike's family gathered there ... and I spread his ashes into the stream. Then I gave each person one of those stones. I still have a drawer full ... and each time I visit that site ... I put one back.
NOTE: I just put one back on 26 June 2023
Read this story and see how it was back in the 1970's when AIDS was first making it's appearance. It will be hard to read towards the end ... I warn you. BUT ... read it. There is love so deeply expressed in the story that I can not begin to express. Keep the tissues handy ... for clean up during the first part of the story and for the tears towards the end of story.
In many ways, it was a simpler time. AIDS was still incubating somewhere in the Far East. Gay activism was still in its ascendancy and had yet to intrude it's polarizing questions of sexuality and being into the common psyche. Don't misunderstand; there was a terrible stigma attached to being “queer.” And yet, at the same time, we were more comfortable being naked with other boys in nonsexual situations, like locker room showers and trough urinals. At least, from my experience, it seemed easy for buddies to slip into a little sexual experimentation and not worry much about it.
Josh could not have written a better story about the time when AIDS was first making itself known. Thankfully, my bud Mike was not taken by that terrible disease ... he was taken by cancer ... an equally terrible disease ... that also took my father. My loathing for Ronald Reagan and his administration for their refusal to make the dangers of AIDS public will always reside deeply in my heart.
If you are too young to remember this time in history ... read the story. If you know exactly what I'm talking about ... read the story. Josh recalls that time with amazing accuracy ... and packs it with relentless emotion.

A summer at a fishing shack just off South Padre Island (near Brownsville, Texas) forever changes the lives of 15 year old Stick (Aaron) and fourteen your old Kipper (Will). This is a wonderful story with vivid descriptive scenery and some pretty descriptive boy on boy sex. It's a hot read for sure, but, putting all the sex aside, it's a story about two boys falling in love ... and not just the everyday kind of love, but a love that is meant to last a lifetime. There's something about the expectations that typical teenageers have that is surpassed in this story. The connection between Stick and Kippers is undeniable. After reading this story, I'm sure you will agree. Congrats to Josh for a well told tale!

What happened to Ty? Thank goodness his story is still on Nifty, because other than that, he has disappeared from the net.
Tyrel "Rock" Wolf, Ty to his friends, wrote an epic story. It's the story of Daniel, who prefers to be called Storm and a boy he meets on a bus. Growing up as a pretty normal boy, Storm finds himself totally swept away by a boy called Lucas. After meeting Lucas on the school bus, Storm faces the reality that, for the first time in his young life, he's attracted to another boy. In a small town called Merlow, you'll meet Dade, Storm's younger brother, along with Mike, Sarah, Marcel and more. Ty tells this story that will have you on an emotional rollercoaster ... laughing your ass off one minute and crying your eyes out the next. Storm Front is one of the first stories I started reading on Nifty and I'm damn glad I did. This is drama at it's best.
Way back in April of 2004, I was working on the newsletter at GayAuthors.org and interviewed Ty. Click here to read that interview.

But at 15 there are plenty of things that a kid can think of to buy that seem like essentials for life.     Nerd. That's the word that probably best described me when I was seventeen. I was a skinny, and in my own estimation, geeky looking boy, 5'10", 119 pounds, with light brown hair and hazel eyes- at least I didn't wear glasses- hiding in a fanatsy world of my own design, rarely daring to peek through the threshold into everybody else's reality, for fear of the rejection and humiliation that seemed to be the driving force of all that was. I had actually been told more than once that I was cute, but in my painfully shy and insecure mind, that didn't mean a thing. As far as I was concerned, I had only two things going for me: I was smart enough, and had a very active and vivid imagination.

"So how was your big prom night?" Scott asked. I had gone to the prom the night before only as a favor to Jackie, my best friend at Mountain Pine High, and taken one of her friends on a set-up date. It turned out that Toni, my so-called date, really only wanted to make another guy jealous. It worked; he'll be mad at me for a year at least. The band split their time between playing their own music, which no one else had ever heard, and butchering the songs of real artists. To top it all off I had worn this hideous powder blue tuxedo that my date had talked me into because it matched her dress and - she said - my eyes.
    "It sucked," I said.
"Tyler Allen Fox!" Scott said, feigning shock. I had a reputation - mostly deserved - among both kids and adults for being extremely clean cut, but I could relax and let my guard down with Scott. He was the same way. We were the kind of guys that men would let their daughters date without having to take a blood pressure pill.

It also deals with the stress that a family feels when it has to take care of a stroke victim. But along the way, Billy's feelings toward his best friend Brett are bubbling just beneath the surface. At thirteen, those feelings can be confusing. Hormones are running rampant, emotions are always on edge and there is nothing more important in the world than ... your best friend.
Parts 2, 3, 4, 5 and the final part 6 deal with a whole lot more ... how do you handle sexual abuse? How do you handle the fact that your two best friends hate each other? How do you handle the fact that your mother has suddenly become a homophobic Charismatic Christian? How do you deal with the death of your father? There's a whole lot more to this story than first meets the eye. So read and enjoy the ride. Jeff handles some really sticky situations rather well.
And with chapter titles like "The Erotic Adventures of a Boy and His Bike" you just can't pass this one up. LOL!
I couldn't help but think about reading the last chapter of this story ... I KNEW it was the last chapter, but I savored every single word like they were the finest bite of filet migon ever put on a plate before me. I think that just knowing that it's the LAST chapter of a story that has spanned the lives of two people from thirteen to eighteen ... well, you feel like you grew up with them and you don't want to let them go. The thing you have to remember is that they're still there ... and their story is still there ... the journey is still there ... and you can ride that wild adventure anytime you want to ... just start at chapter one. My sincere congradulations to Jeff for an absolutely wonderful story. And now that he's finished it ... hehehe ... I'm gonna read it again!!

There were certain things in this universe that could always be counted on. The smell of old socks coming from the boy's locker room. The pack of giggling females that crowded around the first-string quarterback as he slid down the hall. And the way Dillon Carver's heart slammed against his chest every time he saw Jamie Walker. James, he mentally corrected himself. He'd long ago lost the right to call him Jamie. But if God was as merciful as the preacher of the First Christian Church of Reed claimed, he'd get it back.

Accepting the fact you're gay is a really big step ... a step that can be extremely difficult and sometimes leads to thoughts of suicide. When two young boys are "caught in the act" one of them can't deal with the consequences and the other builds a huge wall around himself and won't let anyone in. He becomes a tough guy skater to shield the feelings he fights. Until one day, Rusty meets Ian. People usually keep at least an arm's length of distance from Rusty, but Ian is different. This story is wonderful. Rick's writing allows the reader to really experience Rusty's internal struggle. It's an extremely well written story I'm sure you'll enjoy.
Gotta add a side note here ... my really close friend Randy went through a similar experience. Randy is gay and his "straight" friend Craig liked to fool around. They got caught (as expected). Randy chose to run. Craig chose not to. I took Randy 400 miles south to his mother. Craig steadfastly took it. Both were seniors in high school. I went so far as to take Craig down to see Randy so they could "fool around" while I "seemed" to be asleep in the next bed over. I did this on two occasions that I can remember. Problem was ... I was in love with Randy. It broke my heart to listen to them "fool around." I tried to "fool around" with Craig, but he only had eyes for Randy. Long story short ... Craig is probably fat with three kids and Randy is still mowing the field of the latest person willing to bottom for the exclusive top ... that I fucked. Haha. Well, life goes on, dosen't it?

Jim has a decision to make. An acquaintance (Jimmy) wants him to go on a camping trip, a survival camping trip so he can join an exclusive club. Jim is somewhat good with camping skills and besides, Jimmy's father has offered the boys a hundred dollars a day if they make the seven day survival trip. So the stage is set.
I think you'll enjoy this story, 'cause it wouldn't be on this list if it wasn't any good.

Craig shook his head and forced the depression that was starting to creep up on him away. No, he had to keep hopeful. He had always been a smart kid. He knew about Occam's Razor. He knew about probability. Out of six billion people the chances that five billion and change could vanish one night without a trace leaving Craig Jamison and only Craig Jamison sleeping in his bedroom while wearing one dirty sock were remote. Ridiculously remote. Despite no evidence to the contrary in eight months.
Okay, so you wake up one day and everyone is gone ... everyone. You are alone on the planet (as far as you know). What do you do? Packs of wolves, wild dogs and cougars chase you. What about food? What about protection? What about power? No Internet? (God forbid!) What about transportation? Is there anyone else out there?
NOTE - 12 July 2023 - I just finished reading this story again and, wow! Wow! What an adventure!
